Listen Mode: Live Meeting Transcription

Listen mode transcribes a live conversation in real time — your microphone and the audio coming from your computer, together — and shows a running, speaker-labeled transcript. No bot joins your call; everything runs from your own machine through Pluely.

Start listening

  1. Select Listen at the top of the overlay.
  2. Press Start listening. The first time, Pluely will ask for microphone and screen-recording permissions — screen recording is what lets Pluely hear the other side of a call.
  3. The transcript begins filling in as people speak. A live waveform shows Pluely is hearing audio.

Who said what

  • Voices are told apart automatically and labeled Speaker 1, Speaker 2, … — one of them is you. Pluely also runs echo cancellation, so the call audio playing from your speakers doesn't get transcribed twice through your microphone.
  • Words appear live as they're recognized, then settle into finalized lines.
  • The transcript auto-scrolls to follow the conversation, and pauses following if you scroll up to read back.

Pause, resume, stop

  • Pause stops sending audio and frees the microphone (your OS mic indicator turns off), then you can resume right where you left off. Paused time never counts against your monthly live-transcription allowance.
  • Stop ends the session and saves it as a meeting you can reopen later.

Get help from the conversation

Listen mode isn't just a recorder — it's a live copilot:

  • Automatic responses — Pluely responds on its own as the conversation needs it: when someone asks a question, or after every pause. You configure the trigger and the pace from the Auto responses chip; what it says comes from your active Listen mode's prompt.
  • Ask from the transcript — tap Suggest, a follow-up chip, or type an instruction, and Pluely answers using the recent conversation as context.
  • Context awareness — Pluely quietly detects whether you're in an interview, a meeting, a coding discussion, or a multilingual conversation, and switches the Listen mode tab for you until you pin one.

Listen modes: General, Interview, Coding, Translate, Meeting — and your own

The tabs at the top of Listen mode are not fixed — each one is a system prompt of your own:

  • Pluely ships with five editable defaults — General, Interview, Coding, Translate, and Meeting. They're ordinary system prompts in Dashboard → System Prompts: open one, rewrite the prompt, rename it, attach knowledge files — the tab follows your changes.
  • The tab shows the first two words of the prompt's name; the full prompt (plus any knowledge files attached to it) shapes every response while that mode is active — suggestions, automatic responses, and anything you type.
  • Make any prompt a Listen mode. On the System Prompts page, use Make Listen mode on any prompt's menu (or the Listen modes panel at the top of the page) — your own "Sales Calls" or "Standup Notes" prompt becomes a tab next to the defaults. Show up to 6 at a time and re-order them with the arrows; the tabs update in the overlay instantly, mid-session included.
  • The + button at the end of the tab row opens the dashboard so you can add or edit modes without leaving the overlay.
  • Auto-detection still works: while no tab is pinned, Pluely follows the conversation and switches to the matching mode. Tap a tab to pin it; the row shows Manual when pinned and Auto when following.

Compact view

During a session, Compact view pops the live transcript into a small picture-in-picture panel — perfect when you want the conversation pinned in a corner while you work in another app. The full overlay keeps running underneath.

Languages

Listen mode supports English by default and can be switched to dozens of other languages, or to a multilingual mode that handles conversations that mix languages. The list is always current — set your language in the Listen controls before starting.

Session limits & safety

Listen mode protects both your privacy and your plan allowance:

  • The composer shows a live countdown of your remaining monthly transcription time while listening.
  • After 5 minutes of complete silence, the session stops itself — no reason to keep the mic hot or spend allowance when nobody's talking.
  • Every hour, Pluely asks "Still transcribing?" with a 10-second grace — tap Continue to keep going. A forgotten session never runs all night.
  • When your monthly live time runs out, the session ends gracefully at a natural break — never mid-sentence.

Privacy

  • Nothing "dials in" to your call — capture happens locally and streams securely through Pluely.
  • On screen shares, the overlay is designed to stay discreet.
