Troubleshooting Common Issues

Most problems come down to permissions or settings. Work through the sections below; if you're still stuck, check the FAQ.

Listen mode only hears me, not the other person

Pluely needs screen-recording permission to capture your computer's audio (the "Them" side). Grant it in your system settings (on macOS: System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording), then restart Pluely and start listening again.

The microphone indicator stays on after I stop

Stopping or pausing a session releases the microphone. If your OS indicator lingers, make sure you pressed Stop (not just hid the overlay), and update to the latest version.

Transcription feels slow or lines keep rewriting

Live words appear as interim text and settle into final lines shortly after. If it feels laggy, check your internet connection. Overlapping speakers are separated as the transcript finalizes.

The overlay won't appear

• Use your toggle shortcut to summon it (it may be hidden).
• Check that the shortcut isn't in conflict with another app.
• On macOS, make sure Pluely is allowed to run (first-launch prompt).

My question shows an error instead of an answer

Pluely shows a friendly message when a request can't complete. Common causes:

• You've hit a monthly limit — wait for the reset, upgrade, or switch to your own provider/CLI. See Plans & usage.
• No internet / can't reach Pluely — check your connection.
• A "bring your own" model isn't fully set up — finish configuring it in settings. See Choosing your AI.

Answers aren't using my document / screenshot

Make sure the attachment finished processing (it shows a source chip) before you send. Very large documents are trimmed to fit — ask about specific sections for the best results.

My usage isn't updating

Only requests through Pluely Models count toward your plan. Requests via Your CLI or Your Providers run on your own credentials and aren't metered by Pluely.
