Getting Started

Installing Pluely

Pluely runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux with the same features on every platform. This guide walks through downloading, installing, and granting the permissions Pluely needs.

1. Download

Head to the download page and grab the build for your operating system. Choose the installer that matches your machine (for example, an Apple-silicon vs. Intel build on macOS).

2. Install

  • macOS — open the downloaded file and drag Pluely into your Applications folder. The first time you launch it, macOS may ask you to confirm you want to open it.
  • Windows — run the installer and follow the prompts. If Windows SmartScreen appears, choose More info → Run anyway.
  • Linux — use the provided package for your distribution and launch Pluely from your applications menu.

3. Grant permissions

Some features need operating-system permission. Pluely will prompt you the first time you use them, and you can always change them later in your system settings.

  • Microphone — required for Listen mode and push-to-talk. Without it, Pluely can't transcribe your side of a conversation.
  • Screen Recording — required to capture system audio (the other side of a call) and to take screenshots. On macOS this lives under System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen Recording.
  • Accessibility (some platforms) — enables certain global shortcuts and window behavior.

Tip: If Listen mode starts but you only hear yourself, screen-recording permission (which also unlocks system-audio capture) is usually the missing piece. See Troubleshooting.

4. Open the overlay

Launch Pluely and the overlay appears — a small, always-on-top panel. You can drag it anywhere, resize it, and summon or hide it with a keyboard shortcut. That's your home base for everything.
