Ask Mode: Instant AI Answers on Your Screen
Ask mode is Pluely's question-and-answer surface. Type a question, optionally attach what's on your screen, and Pluely streams back an answer in a clean panel — without leaving the app you're in.
The basics
- Select Ask at the top of the overlay.
- Type your question in the input at the bottom.
- Press Enter. Your question appears at the top; the answer streams in below it.
Answers render as rich markdown — headings, lists, tables, and syntax-highlighted code all display properly.
Add context from your screen
Ask mode shines when Pluely can see what you see. You can attach:
- Screenshots — capture the full screen or drag to select just a region. Great for error messages, dashboards, or anything you can't easily copy as text. See Screenshots.
- Images — drop in a photo or diagram and ask about it.
- Documents — attach a PDF or similar and ask questions about its contents. Pluely reads the text for you. See File Uploads.
Attached items show up as small source chips so you always know what context the answer used.
"Use image": your screen with every question
Next to the input there's a Use image toggle (Pro, vision-capable models only). While it's on, every question you send silently grabs a fresh screenshot first, so the AI always sees your current screen — no need to re-attach anything. While the screenshot is being taken, the toggle shows Capturing… and the status pill reads Capturing screen…, so you always know what's happening during those couple of seconds before the answer starts.
Stop a streaming answer
While an answer is streaming, the send button becomes a Stop button — tap it to cut the answer off immediately (a long answer you didn't want costs you nothing extra to stop).
Conversations and follow-ups
- Pluely keeps the whole conversation and sends it with each new question, so follow-ups build naturally on what came before.
- After each answer, Pluely suggests a few follow-up actions — tap one to send it instantly.
- Toggle between Latest (just the current question and answer, a cleaner view) and All (the full thread) from the answer header.
Auto-screenshot (Pro)
On paid plans, Pluely can attach a screenshot automatically when you ask:
- Once — grab a single screenshot with your next question, then turn itself off.
- Interval — every few seconds, capture the screen and ask a monitoring question automatically. Useful for keeping an eye on a changing screen.
You control the delay and interval in settings.
Tips
- Be specific — "rewrite this paragraph to be more concise and formal" beats "fix this."
- Attach a screenshot for anything visual; describing it in words loses detail.
- Use follow-ups instead of retyping — they carry the full context forward.
