Getting Started

Pluely v1 System Requirements

Before installing Pluely v1, it helps to know what hardware and software it expects. Pluely runs on macOS, Windows, and Linux with an identical feature set on every platform, so the requirements below apply broadly rather than favoring one operating system.

Supported operating systems

Pluely v1 supports a modern build of each of the following:

  • macOS — a current or recent release capable of running modern desktop apps.
  • Windows — a current or recent version of Windows.
  • Linux — a mainstream, up-to-date distribution able to run standard desktop packages.

All three platforms get the same overlay, Listen mode, screenshot, and model-picker features — there is no reduced "lite" version on any operating system.

Hardware requirements

  • A working microphone — required for Listen mode and push-to-talk. A built-in laptop microphone is sufficient, though an external or headset microphone typically improves transcription accuracy in noisy environments.
  • A modern CPU and typical RAM for your OS — Pluely is a lightweight desktop app and does not require specialized hardware like a dedicated GPU.
  • Enough free disk space for the installer and normal application data.

Network requirements

  • An internet connection is required to use Pluely's managed models — this covers Listen mode transcription, AI responses, and screenshot analysis when you are on a paid or trial plan.
  • If you bring your own provider key, or connect a local CLI such as Claude Code, Gemini CLI, or Ollama, some setups can work fully or partly offline, since requests are not routed through Pluely's managed models.
  • A stable connection matters most during live Listen mode sessions, since transcription happens in real time.

Permissions as a requirement

Beyond hardware and OS version, Pluely needs certain permissions granted to function fully:

  • Microphone access, for Listen mode and push-to-talk.
  • Screen access, for system-audio capture (hearing the other side of a call) and for screenshots.

Treat these as part of your setup checklist — see Microphone and screen permissions for Pluely for exact steps per platform.

Account requirements

A license is not required simply to install and open Pluely, but it is required to unlock Pluely's managed models and Pro features. Without one, you can still use Pluely by bringing your own provider key or a supported local CLI.

Troubleshooting

  • Pluely feels slow or unresponsive — check that your machine meets a reasonably modern hardware baseline and that no other heavy applications are competing for resources.
  • Listen mode drops or stutters — this is usually a network stability issue rather than a hardware one; check your internet connection during the session.
  • Installer refuses to run — confirm you downloaded the correct build for your exact operating system from pluely.com/downloads.
  • Features work but managed models do not respond — verify your internet connection, since Pluely's managed models require it even if the app itself opens fine offline.
