Getting Started

Keep Pluely v1 Up to Date

Pluely v1 is designed to stay current automatically, so you always have the latest features, model improvements, and fixes without doing anything manually. This page covers how updates work and what to do if you ever need to update Pluely by hand.

How automatic updates work

Pluely checks for new versions and updates itself in the background. When an update is available:

  1. Pluely downloads the new version quietly while you continue working.
  2. On the next launch, or after a short prompt inside the app, the update is applied.
  3. Your license activation, settings, and shortcut preferences carry over automatically — there is nothing to reconfigure.

This applies the same way across macOS, Windows, and Linux; there is no separate update mechanism to learn per platform.

Manually getting the latest version

If you ever want to be certain you are on the newest build, or automatic updates did not apply for some reason:

  1. Go to pluely.com/downloads.
  2. Download the installer for your operating system.
  3. Run it the same way you did during your original setup:
    • On macOS, open the download and drag Pluely into your Applications folder again, replacing the existing app.
    • On Windows, run the installer; it will detect and replace your current installation.
    • On Linux, install the new package using your distribution's package manager, which will upgrade the existing install.

Your license and preferences are preserved through a manual reinstall in the same way they are with an automatic update.

Why staying updated matters

  • New releases often improve Pluely's managed models and add capabilities to Listen mode, screenshots, and the overlay.
  • Fixes for permission handling and platform-specific quirks ship in updates, so staying current reduces the chance of hitting a known issue.
  • Older versions may eventually lose compatibility with Pluely's managed models as the service evolves.

Checking your current version

Open Pluely and look in its settings or account area for the version number, alongside your plan and license status. Compare this against the latest release noted on pluely.com/downloads if you are unsure whether you are current.

Troubleshooting

  • Pluely never seems to update — quit Pluely fully rather than just closing the overlay, then reopen it; updates are commonly applied on a fresh launch.
  • Update seems stuck or half-applied — manually download and reinstall from pluely.com/downloads using the steps above for your operating system.
  • Lost my license after updating — this is uncommon; reopen Pluely, go to the license area, and re-enter your license key. See Activate your license for the full flow.
  • New version will not open after installing — on macOS, you may need to repeat the "Open Anyway" step in System Settings > Privacy & Security if Gatekeeper flags the new build; on Windows, repeat the SmartScreen "More info > Run anyway" step if it appears again.
